Livio Mehus

Livio Mehus (1630 - 1691) was active/lived in Flemish.  Livio Mehus is known for Eclectic painting style including landscapes, sacred subjects, genre paintings, and portraits. Late Baroque style with dreamlike deformation of characters and violent luminosity..

Livio Mehus was a painter of Flemish origins who lived during the late Baroque period. He trained in Rome under Pietro da Cortona and was known for his eclectic painting style, which included landscapes, sacred subjects, genre paintings, and portraits. Mehus embodied the late Baroque spirit and figurative arts with his art tending towards dreamlike deformation of characters and violent luminosity. He was one of the most important followers of Cortona as regards sacred paintings. Mehus lived a restless life, moving to Lucca, Genoa, Milan, and Venice, where he was able to come into contact with the paintings of Titian and Tintoretto. He was appreciated by the Grand Prince Ferdinando de 'Medici and by the nobility of the time. Mehus left numerous works, now present in the Palatine Gallery, the Uffizi and the Pitti Palace in Florence, as well as the Poldi Pezzoli Museum, the Louvre, the Courtauld Institute, and in many other places.
